K-PAW Volunteer Orientation (Kids Promoting Animal Welfare)
The KPAW program (which stands for “Kids Promoting Animal Welfare”) is a unique volunteer program aimed at getting young people in our community interested in animal welfare.  In order to be accepted into the program, potential KPAW volunteers must be 13-16 years of age, attend a KPAW orientation, and then submit a fundraising plan to the Volunteer Manager for approval. The fundraising plan should be a way to raise money or donations for the HSMSC off-property, and could be a can drive at school, a bake sale, a neighborhood dog washing station, etc.  The fundraising plan must happen within the first three months of membership in the KPAW program.

KPAW Orientations are held the 3rd Saturday of every month at 11AM at the Humane Society and we do ask that you RSVP beforehand.  Volunteers must fill out an application and have a waiver of liability signed by a parent and pay $20 for their annual membership and t-shirt.

Two Hearts Beat As One
In honor Valentine's Day, this month we are offering two adoptable pets for the price of just one! That can be two cats, two dogs, or two cats and a dog. We have several bonded pairs in both the cats and the dogs, which means that two animals have been together so long and have bonded so closely that we prefer to adopt them out together--because they love each other! The regular adoption price is $96 for dogs and $90 for cats, so it's quite a value, and two pets is twice as nice! Many double-pet families say that they can't imagine one without the other and that having two pets suits everyone best!

Third-Month Three-Leg Special

Since our mission is caring for the injured and abused companion animals of the Mid-South, we are proud to call many three-legged animals part of our adoptable pet family. Our staff and volunteers know that three-legged animals (or tripods, as we often affectionately call them) are no less energetic, athletic, happy or healthy than their four-legged counterparts. We want to share the message that tripods are wonderful, worthy and deserving of great homes!

That's why this month, the third month of the year, we're taking time to celebrate our three-legged animals and offer you 50% off their adoption fee (regular price: $96 for dogs and $90 for cats).

01 April - 30 April
Half-Price on Heartworm Positive

Many dogs who come to us are heartworm positive. It can be a long recovery process, especially with the recent shortage of the faster-acting heartworm treatment, and we want to avoid keeping any animal in our facility for longer than necessary, as a home environment is much more natural and less stressful than ANY shelter environment, no matter how progressive and pleasant the shelter is. That's why we are offering you a 50% discount on any animal that is heartworm positive* so that these animals don't have to wait until they are totally heartworm-free to go home! Plus, we provide the heartworm treatment until they are heartworm-free!

*HSMSC's animal care manager must clear the dog's health before proceeding.
