Community Assistance

Project STOP offers low-cost and free spay/neuter and vaccination services to income-qualifying pet owners. Project STOP operates twice weekly at the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County. To request services from Project STOP, call 901-937-3918 and leave a detailed message.
Thousands of unwanted animals are born in Memphis and Shelby County every year because owners do not spay or neuter their pets. These animals often grow up to be abused, neglected, abandoned or sick. We want to stop the cycle of overpopulation by helping pet owners spay or neuter their pets.
Help Fund Our Mobile Spay/Neuter Unit & Community Pet Assistance
We are working to put a mobile spay/neuter unit on the streets of Memphis. Once in place, our staff will drive the MSNU to different neighborhoods and areas, concentrating on low-income areas, to make spaying and neutering not only affordable but also accessible. We hope to spay and neuter up to 6,000 animals per year and, over the next few years, make a huge dent in the number of homeless animals in our community. But we can’t do it without your help. Please donate today to help us end pet overpopulation. (Choose Mobile Spay/Neuter Unit as "gift type.")

HSMSC Low-Cost Spay & Neuter Vouchers
Our spay/neuter program enables any pet owner (no income qualification required) to have their pet spayed or neutered for a base cost of $50. Here's how:
Step 1:
Your cat or dog should be at least six months old and up-to-date with vaccinations. If vaccines are not current, make an appointment with a vet. You will be required to have proof of vaccinations at the time of the procedure.
Step 2:
Visit our offices at 935 Farm Road, Tuesday - Friday: 10 am - 6 pm, Sat: 10 am - 5 pm and Sunday: 1 pm - 5 pm (closed Mondays). You can choose from a list of participating vets (see below), and we will schedule your appointment. You will pay $50 to the Humane Society and receive a certificate for the vet you have selected.
Step 3:
You will take your pet, your certificate and proof of vaccination to the veterinary clinic at the appointed time.
NOTE: Additional services may be offered by the veterinarian at the time of surgery that are not included in the A$50 voucher price. For pets over 50 lbs, there could be an additional fee that is determined at the time of the vet appointment. Each vet service may have a different fee structure for animals over 50 lbs.
