Dog Walking Volunteers

Dog walking volunteers help our dogs become more adoptable by giving them much-needed exercise and the opportunity for social interaction. As a dog walker you will enrich the lives of our adoptable dogs by taking them on a walk and/or interacting with them in one of our five play yards. If you want to do more, you can be taught how to train and socialize them. You may also help our staff give our dogs the best possible life while they wait for their forever home. This might include spot cleaning kennels, filling water bowls, folding laundry, and other activities in our shelter. To become a dog walking volunteer, you must be at least 18 years of age, fill out a volunteer application and attend an orientation.

Cat Care

Help our amazing cat care staff keep our kennels clean and our cats happy by volunteering for one of our cat cleaning shifts. We clean our cat habitat every morning, which includes sanitizing and wiping down kennels, emptying litter boxes and refilling litter boxes, doing dishes, refilling food and water bowls, and doing laundry. This is an essential part of our daily work and helps keep our feline residents comfortable and healthy. We also provide enrichment through playtime and socialization, to ensure that our cats have the best chance possible at a successful adoption. We ask that you submit a volunteer application and attend a Volunteer Orientation.

Team building while doing good
Corporate Volunteering

Corporate team volunteering at the Humane Society not only benefits the organization but also fosters a sense of unity and purpose among employees. Engaging in hands-on activities such as assisting with animal care, facility maintenance, or event support, corporate volunteering allows teams to collaborate, communicate, and problem-solve together in a different setting. This experience encourages teamwork, enhances employee morale, and strengthens bonds within the company. Moreover, corporate team volunteering at the Humane Society provides a unique opportunity for employees to connect with animals in need, promoting empathy and compassion. By giving their time and skills to support the organization’s mission, teams can make a tangible difference in the lives of animals while creating a positive impact on their own work culture and sense of social responsibility. Interested in volunteering as a group? Please email volunteer@memphishumane.org and include your name, the number of volunteers, and the name of your organization.

Bring joy

Adopt a Pet

Pet adoption benefits both the adopter and adoptee. It brings joy, love, and companionship, while providing a sense of responsibility, routine, and health benefits for the adopter. Adopted pets receive a second chance and a loving home, freeing up space in shelters to help more animals. It’s a win-win situation, creating a lasting bond.
