Spay/Neuter Assistance

Thousands of unwanted animals are born in Memphis and Shelby County every year because owners do not spay or neuter their pets. These animals often grow up to be abused, neglected, abandoned or sick. We want to stop the cycle of overpopulation by helping pet owners spay or neuter their pets, and we never want lack of funds to be an obstacle to taking care of your pet.

If you are on government assistance, we can help you get your pet spayed or neutered through our Project STOP program below. If you are not on government assistance, then our Low-Cost Spay & Neuter Voucher below will help you get spay/neuter surgery for $50.

 Project STOP (Low-Income Spay/Neuter & Vaccinations)

If you receive government assistance such as food stamps, social security, disability, or unemployment and would like to sign up for low-cost spay/neuter for your dog or cat, leave a voicemail at 901-937-3918 with the following information for each animal you'd like to schedule: species (dog or cat); breed; approximate weight; male or female (please mention if the female is in heat or pregnant). Please also leave a good call-back number for you. We will return your call to get you scheduled. Spay/neuter surgery is available to those on government assistance for $35 for dogs and $30 for cats. Rabies and a combo vaccine is included if needed.

If you are on government assistance and are just looking for vaccines, watch this page for information on when our next $5 vaccination event will be.

HSMSC started Project STOP in 2012 to provide low-cost spay/neuter services to income-qualifying pet owners. To date, we have altered over 1,200 dogs and cats through the program.

HSMSC Low-Cost Spay & Neuter Vouchers

Our spay/neuter program enables any pet owner (no income qualification required) to have their pet spayed or neutered for a base cost of $50. Here's how:

Step 1:
Your cat or dog should be at least six months old and up-to-date with vaccinations. If vaccines are not current, make an appointment with a vet. You will be required to have proof of vaccinations at the time of the procedure.

Step 2:
Visit our offices at 935 Farm Road, Tuesday - Friday: 10 am - 6 pm, Sat: 10 am - 5 pm and Sunday: 1 pm - 5 pm (closed Mondays). You can choose from a list of participating vets (see below), and we will schedule your appointment. You will pay $50 to the Humane Society and receive a certificate for the vet you have selected.

Step 3:
You will take your pet, your certificate and proof of vaccination to the veterinary clinic at the appointed time.

NOTE: Additional services may be offered by the veterinarian at the time of surgery that are not included in the A$50 voucher price. For pets over 50 lbs, there could be an additional fee that is determined at the time of the vet appointment. Each vet service may have a different fee structure for animals over 50 lbs.
